Awards Page FAQ

How to decide which type of award to select?

Are you nominating a student for recognition?

  • The Gerald O. Mott Graduate Student Award in Crop Science recognizes top-notch graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in crop science disciplines.
  • The National Student Recognition Program recognizes outstanding seniors at a four-year institution and second year students at a two-year institution that has an active club affiliated with the Students of Agronomy, Soils, and Environmental Sciences (SASES).

Other awards for Undergraduate and Graduate students can be found in our Student Awards.

  • Once you select "Start Application" for the student awards, you will be asked to choose between graduate and undergraduate awards.

  • You will then be able to see all of the awards that apply to that category and can select the one you are looking for or review all of them to see which may apply to yourself or your nominee.

All other open awards can be found in the Professional Awards applications.

  • Professional awards are organized by audience or type of award.
  • Awards that do not fit any of the listed categories can be found under "General".
  • You can review all open awards and their categories here.

What happens when I input a reference email?

Upon entering a reference, an email is sent from awards@sciencesocieties.org containing instructions to submit the letter. When reference writers submit a letter, an email is sent to the nominator notifying them a reference has been submitted.

How can I tell how many references a nomination requires?

Each award description has the number of required references, but you can also review the list of all open awards here.

How long can I edit a nomination?

You can edit a nomination up until you click submit or the final submission deadline.

How do I know my nomination is complete?

You can submit your nomination before reference letters are submitted, but your nomination will not be considered complete until all references are recieved.

If you submit an application with an outstanding letter of reference, you will be able to find any pending references in the navigation bar on the left side of the main page and from there you can change the contact information if necessary or resend a notification email.
