Name: Prof. Quirijn de Jong van Lier

Recipient Biography: Quirijn de Jong van Lier is Professor of Soil and Environmental Physics at the University of São Paulo, Piracicaba, Brazil. He holds an MSc in Soil Science from Wageningen University, the Netherlands, and a PhD from the University of São Paulo. Professor De Jong van Lier has made major contributions to soil physics through pioneering research on root water uptake modeling and soil hydraulic characterization. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications. His work has improved widely used models such as Hydrus and SWAP and advanced the understanding of water dynamics in tropical soils through innovative experimental and inverse modeling approaches. Dr. De Jong van Lier provides scientific leadership at both the national and international levels. In addition to his activities at the University of São Paulo, he is actively involved in the Soil Science Society of America, the Brazilian Soil Science Society, and the International Soil Modeling Consortium.
