The Science Policy Office represents the needs and priorities of Society members to policymakers in Washington, D.C. Even if it feels like what goes on in Washington has nothing to do with you, federal policy does have an impact on how and what research gets done. It is critical that we are a part of the decision-making process to ensure that science is informing federal policies.
Scientists, students, and certified professionals play a vital role in advocating for food, agriculture, and natural resources research. Each year, ASA, CSSA, and SSSA members have the chance to meet with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to demonstrate the value and impact of scientific research funding.
The next Congressional Visits Day will be held February 24–25, 2026. Members interested in science advocacy can apply through the Excellence in Advocacy Award or the Future Leaders in Science Award. Selected participants will receive fully funded travel and lodging to attend. More information about Congressional Visits Day available here.
